Texting While Driving to Become Primary Offense July 1st

Starting July 1st police officers can pull over drivers they see texting while driving. It used to be a secondary offense, meaning they have to pull someone over for a primary offense before they could ticket one for texting or emailing. But soon, it will be a primary offense that carries a $125 fine (up from $20) for first offense and a $250 fine for second offense. Maryland and DC have already made texting while driving illegal.
