Former NFL Linebacker Assaulted: Charges Pending reported an update about a gang-related assault that occurred earlier this October involving a former NFL San Francisco’s 49er’s linebacker. The incident occurred October 23rd when Ed Beard (71) was riding his bicycle thru his neighborhood where he grew up. He stopped at Portluck Elementary School’s baseball field when he saw teenagers assaulting another person. Beard tried to stop the fight, but the teenagers began to strike him instead. He walked away from the assault with a concussion, a black eye, a gash to the back of his head, and many cuts and bruises.

The delinquents; Jalen Ridick, Tyhir Richardson, Joseph Morgan, and James Richardson-Jackson are all being tried as adults. The four youths will be tried separately in Juvenile & Domestic Relations Circuit Court on charges of malicious wounding by a mob and malicious assault. The Commonwealth’s Attorney, Amy Miller stated, “If they were tried together, evidence against one could prejudice a jury against another.” She also said that gang-related charges could possibly arise later on.

The hearings have been scheduled as following: Richardson on Feb. 10, Richardson-Jackson on Feb. 24, Morgan on March 16, and Riddick on March 23. At this time Judge Eileen Olds has ruled that they remain in the detention center. Beard was pleased with the Judge’s ruling and said “I hope there are lessons learned from this.”
